Nothing I saw here changed my opinion about the game, and it remains one of my most anticipated titles. Pretty standard for a StarCraft II event, I suppose. I briefly looked at the player sitting beside me and realized they were much better at the game than I was as their hand was a blur over the keyboard. I planted a bunker next to the entry ramp of my base and filled it with Marines so I could strengthen my economy in peace. I built a few SCVs to start mining minerals and bringing in Vespene gas. It wasn't long at this point until the end of my play time, but here the play mechanics felt welcome and familiar. After checking all this out I returned Raynor to the bridge and fired up a mission, at the start of which I was required to defend a Terran base from encroaching Protoss and Zerg units with the ultimate goal of collecting four relics scattered around the map and securing an artifact. I couldn't really tell what was going on in the lab, but one menu screen that could be accessed had pictures of the Protoss and Zerg with progress bars underneath.

Raynor takes a seat near the middle of the screen, and above is visible a jukebox tied next to the TV and what appeared to be a projected image of a dancing Night Elf at the top left of the screen. The cantina houses the news feed, which can be watched and a few people standing around. Over in the armory, it's possible to open up an upgrade menu that lets you snag upgrades for base structures, infantry, starships, vehicles, ghost / spectre, and dominion. The in-game graphics look really sharp, as you've surely seen in videos by now, and the character models during cut-scenes and during the point-and-click sequences are packed with detail and animate smoothly and realistically, which probably isn't surprising to hear considering all the money and talent wrapped up in the game's production. This particular build of the game also felt highly polished. The ship is fully detailed and filled with little moving bits and pieces, and when you move Raynor from the bridge to the armory to the lab and the cantina, it loads up new rooms filled with different characters and clickable parts of the environment. If you want to dig around for details, it's possible to click on the entryway to the room and travel to a few different places. When on the bridge of the ship, he can interact with a terminal to get mission briefings and select where to go next. The basic setup has you, the player, controlling Raynor in a manner similar to point-and-click adventure games. Now this was an interesting part for me since I'd seen the single-player elements of the game on video, but I hadn't actually played around with them before. After a few bits of dialogue were exchanged, Raynor spots the Zerg menace Kerrigan wandering around in a news program displayed on a monitor inside the ship, and soon thereafter the game handed over the controls. I chose to dive into the single-player campaign during my limited time, which kicked off with franchise hero Jim Raynor on a ship firing its way through swarm of Mutalisks.
